The ‘father’ in the parable represents God.The older son represents the Pharisees who were also listening to Lord Jesus’ parables.
The younger son represents the tax collectors and sinners who were listening to Lord Jesus’ parables. The younger son is called the prodigal one but the most prodigal one (most lavish/generous/giving) is the father.
